Health promotion and reduction in high mortality & morbidity demands and architectural correction in the health system to establish Public Health culture in the State. Improving the quality of health care and meeting out the expectation of the people it is needed to develop a cadre of Public Health management professionals who have set of values and modern public health management skills to ensure delivery of cost-effective interventions for health promotion, disease prevention and therapeutic health care.
State of M.P. faces a severe shortfall of public health professional, and capacity building efforts are urgently required to address emerging public health challenges. With this background it has become essential to start the Public Health management courses in the state for health professionals and social sector.
SIHMC has an State of art infra structure and the State Govt. wishes to provide Public health education of national standard and benchmark its excellence with top PH institution in the country.
The public health management course will develop the need based capacity amongst health professionals and empower them to function effectively in resource scares environment and use creative skills for solving the local public health problems in a scientific and cost effective manner.
The participants will acquire practical knowledge through hands on training, lectures through eminent core faculties trained in international public health institutes and vising faculties from various IIPH run by PHFI. the institute is developing world class facilities in the institute like e-class rooms, state of art computer lab, fully air-conditioned Discussion hall, Video conferencing & tele. conferencing facilities, e-library.
The course has been designed by PHFI developed in the context of NRHM. to address the emerging public health needs, it is imperative to position the highly skilled professionals who can implement and monitor health programmes, supervise public health work force and innovate strategies to fulfill the public health challenges. The standard medical degrees offered in state medical colleges do not cover the managerial skills and policy issues. Efforts will be made to train professionals in applied public health management in the rural setting.
PGDPHM will be residential course of one year duration which will include eight months classroom teaching, / discussion /practicals followed by two and a half month of project work followed by one and half month dissertation writing and evaluation.
